_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Stacy Surkis Memorial Scholarship
LIAND is truly fortunate to award a scholarship to a deserving candidate every year for the past several decades. This is totally attributed to the wishes of one outstanding young dietitian and her husband who honor’s them.
Stacy Ellen Surkis was a dedicated, conscientious, young Registered Dietitian who was concerned with the betterment of mankind and the health and well-being of her fellow man. Stacy loved her work as a dietitian. Stacy’s career was very important to her and her goals were limitless. Stacy was diagnosed with breast cancer and lost her battle at the age of 27.
Stacy worked through her illness and all the side effects resulting from the chemotherapy and radiation treatments in an attempt to beat her breast cancer. Stacy did her undergraduate work at the State University of New York at Oneonta. In addition, she obtained her Master’s Degree from NYU and became a Registered Dietitian.
Nothing held Stacy back and nothing was impossible for her to achieve. Even while Stacy was hospitalized, she was working hard at her profession; doing her job up until the very end.
Her husband, Scott, says Stacy is sorely missed but he is highly dedicated to carry out her wishes by donating money every year to a well-deserving candidate. His hope is that Stacy will never ever be forgotten.
